Viticulture:
Training:
Vines are trained to four canes on a vertical trellis, with balanced pruning, shoot thinning, tucking and trimming to achieve an open, healthy canopy. The season was cooler than normal, and flavour intensity was promoted.
Winemaking:
The fruit was machine harvested in cool evening conditions, and pressed with minimal skin contact. The clear juice was fermented at very low temperature with selected yeast strains to preserve the inherent fruit flavours.
Winemaker:
Sam Smail
Tasting Notes:
Colour / Appearance:
Mid straw, with lemon tones.
Aroma / Bouquet:
Vibrant currant-leaf, citrus and gooseberry aromas, with freshly cut herb undertones.
Palate:
A full flavoured, medium bodied wine, with an abundance of archetypal currant and gooseberry flavours, that linger on the dry, clean finish.
Suggested Food Match:
Summer salads, poultry and shellfish, such as Marlborough’s famous green shell mussels, as well as lobster and white fish.
