2016 Whitehaven Featherweight Lower in Alcohol

Reviews & Accolades

Colour / Appearance: Pale straw, with a green hue.
Aroma / Bouquet:Lifted jasmine floral notes, red apple, lemon zest and freshly cut peach.

A light-bodied wine with a fresh, crisp acidity some spritz, and lively aromatic fruit flavours. These flavours persist on the lengthy finish.

We recommend drinking our 2016 Featherweight while it is young and fresh, but the wine is capable of developing nicely over the next 1 to 2 years if carefully cellared.

Food Match:
Barbecued shrimp or mussels, green summer salads, and steamed seafood.

Serve: Lightly chilled.

Residual Sugar:9.0
Titratable Acidity:7.3

Harvest Date: 16th and 20th March 2016

Vine Management: The vines were pruned three and four canes on a vertical shoot positioning trellis. Balanced pruning, shoot thinning, tucking and trimming are used to achieve an open, healthy canopy and clean fruit.

Winemaking: The fruit was machine-harvested in cool early morning conditions, and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact. After settling, the clear juice was fermented at very low temperatures with selected yeast strains to preserve the fresh fruit flavours. The wine was fermented entirely in stainless steel. The ferment was stopped with some residual sugar to balance the higher acidity.

Featherweight Lower Alcohol, Sam Kim, Dec 2016

Delightfully refreshing, the lifted bouquet shows passionfruit, feijoa and lime zest characters with subtle poached pear and stone fruit notes. The palate is lively and vibrant, offering excellent fruit purity together with fine texture and bright acidity, leading to a lengthy crisp finish.

Low in alcohol (9.5%), yet delivers plenty of appealing flavours.

Featherweight Lower Alcohol, Raymond Chan, Dec 2016

Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, very light edged. The nose is softly fresh with light aromas of passionfruit and subtle notes of fresh herbs, unfolding delicate white floral detail and nuances of honeysuckle.

The aromatics are refreshing and build with a soft density in the glass. Off-dry to taste and light-bodied, the palate is mouthwatering with bright and refreshing acidity carrying light flavours of passionfruit, gooseberries and herbs, along with lifted florals. The mouthfeel has a soft richness and rounded core, balanced by acid cut, and the zestiness carries the wine to a lingering, thirst-quenching finish with light passionfruit and herb notes.

This is a crisp and refreshing, light-bodied, off-dry blend of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc with soft passionfruit and floral flavours and a suggestion of richness. Serve as an aperitif and with salads and vegetables over the next 2 years. 60% Pinot Gris and 40% Sauvignon Blanc, cool-fermented to 9.5% alc. and 9.0 g/L RS. 16.5+/20 Dec 2016 RRP $19.90
