Celebrate Sauvignon Blanc Day with a glass of award winning Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

The May 1 event reflects and celebrates everything that is great about the zingy and zesty variety. This year, due to Covid-19, it will be totally virtual, and Marcus Pickens from Wine Marlborough encourages wine lovers to share a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with the world via social media using #sauvblancday #winemarlborough and #whitehavenwines.

Sauvignon Blanc Day is all about sharing the love of this uniquely Marlborough wine and a chance for people to celebrate with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and share their stories online. “This year it’s more important than ever to embrace the great and positive things in life, including Sauvignon Blanc,” says Marcus.

Whitehaven Wines have two award winning delicious Sauvignons to celebrate with.  Their distinctly aromatic Greg 2019 Single Vineyard Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc beautifully displays the characteristics of the sub region where the fruit was grown. Nestled between the snow-capped peaks of Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Awatere Valley is very influenced by the strong coastal breeze with fruit described as being grassier and greener with fresh herb characteristics and a stony minerality.  Master of wine Emma Jenkins describes wines from the Awatere Valley as “arresting and full of vitality.”

The Greg 2019 Sauvignon Blanc won a coveted award at France’s prestigious Concours Mondial du Sauvignon 2020, held in the Loire Valley – the heart of Sauvignon country.  Whitehaven’s 2019 Greg Awatere Valley Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc won a gold medal and went on to be awarded the Revelation 2020 for the best Sauvignon from New Zealand.  The Greg also was awarded the Mainfreight Champion Export Trophy at New Zealand’s Royal Easter Show.

The Greg Sauvignon Blanc, named after Whitehaven founder Greg White, has bright, fresh acidity and shows classic gooseberry and grapefruit aromas with complex wet rock notes, typical of the Awatere Valley sub region. It goes beautifully with Bluff oysters, green shell mussels, white fish or is perfect on its own.

The Whitehaven 2019 Sauvignon Blanc also won gold at the Concours Mondial and for lovers of classic, elegant and fruity Sauvignon Blancs, this is a great choice.  This Whitehaven 219 Sauvignon Blanc combines fruit from the Awatere Valley, the Wairau Valley and the Southern Valleys sub regions and displays lifted passionfruit, gooseberry and peach alongside hints of jalapeno and blackcurrant leaf.

It is delightful as an aperitif or goes beautifully with any kind of seafood, light summery pasta dishes or salads.

So pour yourself a glass of Whitehaven 2019 Sauvignon Blanc or the Greg 2019 Awatere Valley Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, wait for the flavours to leap out of the glass at you and then find a spot in the sunshine to enjoy.  And don’t forget to post on social media to share your Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc story with the world.
