The pedigree of our WHITEHAVEN Sauvignon Blanc has again been highlighted at the 2012 Spiegelau International Wine Competition, where the current 2012 vintage was awarded the prestigious Champion Sauvignon Blanc Trophy.
This accolade continues an impressive track record for our flagship wine. To be chosen best Sauvignon Blanc from a field of Marlborough gold medallists in this significant industry competition is an immensely gratifying achievement for our winemaking team, led by chief winemaker Sam Smail.
The Competition attracted over 1100 New Zealand and offshore entries including wines from France, Australia and Italy. The judging panel included three Masters of Wine – Phil Reedman, Jane Skilton and Meg Brodtmann - and was led by chief judge Mike De Garis.
Our 2012 WHITEHAVEN Sauvignon Blanc 2012 was also recently awarded Gold at the respected 2012 New Zealand International Wine Show, chaired by Bob Campbell MW. The predecessor 2011 vintage was acclaimed ‘Best White Wine Buy of the Year’ in Michael Cooper’s 2012 Buyer’s Guide to NZ Wines.
