It’s been an interesting year for the Whitehaven Cellar Door team. New Zealand has had its share of Alert Level changes and Lockdowns as a result of COVID-19, and these changes have had an impact on our Cellar Door being able to open.

With borders to New Zealand now closed our visitors are now kiwis travelling New Zealand and supporting local businesses.  We’ve loved being able to get to know some of the Aucklanders, Wellingtonians and Cantabrians shopping local!

We have slightly repositioned the Cellar Door to address the change in our audience by creating unique reasons for Kiwis and locals to visit us, particularly during Winter which is traditionally a quiet time of year for the Cellar Door.  We offered a Mulled Wine and spiced chocolate cake special, then we worked with the amazing floral designer Nina Stanley to run a floral demonstration from the Cellar Door.  And, coming up in October over Labour weekend, we have talented local musician John Nelson coming to play his range of acoustic covers.

We’ve also improved our offering to now offer wine and bubbles by the glass, and a range of deli items which our Cellar Door team can use to create platters for guests to enjoy.  We have revamped our outdoor spaces and made them more appealing for people who may want to sit down, relax and enjoy our amazing lakeside setting.

The next time you are able to visit our Cellar Door, we would love to welcome you for a tasting, a glass of wine or bubbles, or just for a friendly chat.

We hope to see your smiling faces again soon!
